Everyone needs a loving, caring Grandparent. Not just babies, but new moms too. Unfortunately not everyone has a biological Grandparent around to help lavish attention on a new family. That’s why Durham Connects has created The GrandParent Network of Durham. The GrandParent Network recruits, trains and matches Durham residents aged 50 and older with new families looking for the kindness and experience of an older mentor.
If you are a senior aged 50 or older and want to make a difference in the life of a child and parent, you can join the GrandParent Network of Durham mentoring program. As a volunteer you will mentor a mom and newborn baby to offer support, inspiration and even a little worldly advice. Sometimes new parents simply need an extra pair of loving arms to hold the baby while they take a rest. Volunteers are asked to commit six hours a month for one year. You will receive a thorough mentor training and guidance from the program prior to being matched. Once a match is made, GrandParents and moms set their own goals and expectations.
Young families need your wisdom, support, and experience to help them be the best parent they can be. Our mentees are looking for someone older to look up to and be a role model while providing parenting and emotional support. They want a caring, positive, inspirational “Grandparent” who can have a positive influence in their life. Help us to continue to make a difference in the lives of families.
If you want to make a difference, please fill out a mentoring application and return it to us by mail or fax. For more information, call Annie Jones-Clement at 919-668-3289.
